This first Adhyāya introduces learners to the divine sound-structure of Sanskrit — the Devabhāṣā.
It begins with learning to read and write the Devanāgarī script, understanding how each letter carries not just a phonetic form but also a spiritual vibration.
Learners will explore the Vowels (Svarāḥ) and Consonants (Vyañjanāni), their places of articulation (Ucchāraṇa Sthānāni), and the scientific order (Varnakrama) that reflects the precision of Sanskrit phonology.
The module culminates in the study of the Maheshwara Sūtrāṇi, the fourteen divine aphorisms said to have emerged from the Damaru of Lord Shiva — forming the very foundation of Pāṇini’s Aṣṭādhyāyī and the entire Sanskrit grammatical system.
By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to:
-
Recognize and write all Devanāgarī letters with accuracy and beauty.
-
Pronounce Sanskrit sounds correctly using their proper articulation points.
-
Understand how the Sanskrit sound system reflects both linguistic science and sacred order.
-
Appreciate the connection between Nāda (sound) and Śabda (word) — where learning becomes a form of meditation.
